Location
Shinsho-an is located in the Okazaki neighborhood of Kyoto. From here, it’s just an hour by car to Osaka Airport. Tokyo is just two hours away by bullet train.
About This Hotel
Shinsho-an is an exclusive boutique hotel with just four spacious suites, immaculate design, and a secluded location in an affluent neighborhood of beautiful homes.
In Kyoto’s leafy neighborhood of Okazaki, temples, Japanese gardens and dreamy private homes offer exceptional examples of the art of living. Tucked away next to a Buddhist temple, one will find the beguiling charm of Shinsho-an, a minimalist wonder where serenity comes easy.
This exclusive boutique hotel has just four individually designed suites, each blending Eastern and Western design principles to thrilling effect. We’re huge fans of authentic Japanese touches like shoji screens and kakekomi ceilings. At the same time, the lavish onsen-style bathrooms feature La Soie bath amenities, which guests are free to take home upon their departure.
Despite Shinsho-an’s small footprint, it’s home to one of Kyoto’s highest-rated restaurants, where reservations are known to fill up to a year in advance. Thankfully, guests get priority at Higashiyama Ogata, home to mouth-watering Japanese cuisine and peerless tasting menus. Breakfast is included for guests, and is served each morning in a specially designed breakfast area in the guest suite.
There’s also plenty to see and do during your stay at Shinsho-an. The hotel is located within walking distance of many of Kyoto’s noteworthy shrines, including the Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle and the Imperial Palace. Pack your hiking boots and trek to the Buddhist temple of Kiyomizu-dera and enjoy the views.

The interior of this room was designed to fall into the informal category of the japanese style standards of formal, semi-formal and informal. The pillars utilize unchamfered logs, while the ceiling makes use of thin boards and bulrush core. Together they create the ambiance and rustic beauty of a tea room. Soft carpet covers the floor, and with its scandinavian furniture, this room offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
