Perched in a picturesque rural location, Château de Mercuès is a short drive from Cahors Airport and the closest major airport is Toulouse, which is a 1hr 15m drive.
About This Hotel
Originally erected in the 13th century, Château de Mercuès’ original purpose was to protect the town of Cahors and the Lot Valley. This magical place was resurrected in the 20st century… for pleasure.
Welcome to your own private castle. Modern conveniences included, of course. Invaded, pillaged, and burnt to the ground during the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion, Château de Mercuès is no stranger to turmoil. But it has finally landed in good hands, and is positively beaming with pleasure at the care and attention it now receives.
24 bedrooms and 6 suites welcome guests into rooms flush with fashionable French style and amazing amenities. Each space has been painstakingly decorated in order to create unique accommodations. Two in particular are very famous: the “Bishop-Room” with its sun-dial in the floor and bed of gold, and “The Tower,” which inspired a historic quote by General de Gaulle in 1950.
On another note, what would life be like without wine? When winegrower Georges Vigouroux set out to make Château de Mercuès one of Europe’s finest castle hotels, wining and dining became a top priority. Wander into the cellar for a taste or two.
